Granville, Vermont is nestled in the heart of the Green Mountain National Forest, nearly dead center geographically in Vermont. The population of Granville is 303 people (based on US 2000 census). Granville boast the oldest continuous running One Room School House in the country, founded in 1856, where Sean attended grades 1 - 5. The village of Granville is about 1 city block long, and mostly boasts the town Post Office, the Bowl Mill (where hand craft wooden bowls are produced), Michael Egan's glass blowing shop, the town Gift Shop, and a number of residents houses.
As Granville is deep in the mountains of rural Vermont, there are a few things that you should remember:
Your cell phone / pager won't work. You'll need to be at least 10 miles away from Granville before you have a hope of getting cell signal. The Dague Family phone number is (802) 767-4424, which you should give as an emergency contact number.
There is no internet. Best modem speed on the phone quality lines in the area is 24 kbs. As such, do not expect internet at the wedding site.
The last 2 miles of road to the site are unpaved. The roads are well maintained gravel roads, however, cars with extremely low clearance (such as sportscars) may encounter problems.
There is one restaurant/bar in Granville itself, D's Dogs, which serves a wide variety of, you guessed it, hot dogs (including tofu dogs) and other similar fare. Most local restaurants close by 9 pm, so if you are coming into town late on Friday night you should plan to stop in one of the larger cities such as Rutland (south) or Burlington (north) on the way.
