Though the page is titled "wedding registry," please don't feel that you have to give us a gift. Many people are traveling from quite a distance to be part of our wedding, and it is a gift to us just to have everyone present.

As we have been living together for two years already, we're not exactly trying to "start" a home. Therefore, we encourage people to consider giving a donation to a charitable organization as an alternative to a traditional gift. Likewise, those of you with less money to spend might want to give us the gift of your time, in the form of some service to us or assistance with the wedding planning. Some ideas are listed below.

Jon B. Higgins Memorial Fund, Wesleyan University: Established in honor of Jon Higgins, the first American to gain reknown in South Indian classical music, and who was a disciple of Susan's late Indian music teacher, T. Viswanathan. Donations support the Indian music program at Wesleyan, both by bringing artists to campus for performances and teaching, and by sending students and faculty to India for study. Susan received a grant from this fund to make her first trip to India, and Viswa was very devoted to supporting this fund, so it holds special meaning for her.
